Despite the record heat and drought we’re experiencing, we have so much to celebrate this month (July)!
Reflecting on a very successful Pollinator Month 2024, we are grateful to be part of the growing movement for biodiversity and healthy habitats in Colorado! From Governor Polis’ Pollinator Month Declaration, to the Colorado Pollinator Network’s Big Day of Bugs, to the many native-and-pollinator-friendly plant swaps that took place statewide, we are seeing what is possible when thousands of people come together around their shared love for pollinators and restoring ecosystem health.
PPAN helped to organize swaps in Denver, Fort Collins, and Boulder this year that added many thousands of native perennial plants to our habitats. To get a sense of just how wonderful these events are, read Wild Ones' writeup on the Denver swap. You might recognize some familiar faces, such as PPAN Board Member Robert Greer, who donated more than 2,000 plants to the Denver swap!
As we celebrate the transformation of non-essential turf into new pollinator habitats through PPAN’s Habitat Fund, we also remember how important it is to transition remaining turf areas to organic management practices. Towards that end we are thrilled to announce that our partners in the Parks Departments of Golden and Lakewood have joined Longmont in establishing organic land management demonstration sites at multiple city parks. You will find more details in the press release by our national partner Beyond Pesticides, who are working with us in Colorado through their Parks for a Sustainable Future program, funded by Natural Grocers.
