Mosquitoes are annoying at best and a real health concern at worst— even though they are technically pollinators. But you don't have to just put up with them. A few targeted changes around your home and yard can dramatically cut down on bites with no chemicals required.

Create a biodiverse landscape with native plants to encourage beneficial wildlife and natural mosquito predators, such as birds, bats and dragonflies .
Eliminate standing water regularly from your property where mosquitoes can breed in even small amounts of water.
Cover up at dawn and dusk when mosquitos are most active.
Use a fan when sitting outside— mosquitos are weak fliers and a light breeze can keep mosquitoes from biting.
Prevent mosquitoes from entering your home by using well fitted window and door screens.
Apply insect repellent when you need to be outdoors in mosquito prone areas. DEET-based repellents are widely considered the gold standard for effectiveness, but you can also try other plant-based alternatives.
