🦋 Happy Colorado Pollinator Month! 🐝

In Colorado, we celebrate the entire month of June as Colorado Pollinator Month, honoring the role that pollinators play in restoring biodiverse ecosystems, our agricultural systems, our health, and our economy.

PPAN has worked with the Governor's office every year since 2017 to proclaim June as Colorado Pollinator Month, and we hope you'll get involved this year in some way from any part of our great state.

Read on for ways to get involved—we hope to see you at one of this month's many, many events!

June 17th @12pm Free Webinar with Dr. Orit Peleg: Understanding & Protecting Fireflies

Remember catching fireflies as a kid? Unfortunately, their magical blinking glow is quietly fading from our landscapes. In this webinar with CU Boulder's Dr. Orit Peleg of The Peleg Lab, we'll dive into the fascinating world of fireflies—their biology, their language of light, and the threats putting them at risk.

Whether you have a backyard, a balcony, or just a love of the natural world, you'll discover how you can help these luminous creatures thrive for generations to come.

Dr. Peleg is a global leader in the Physics of Living Systems. In addition to her faculty appointment at CU Boulder's BioFrontiers and in the Department of Computer Science, she is also affiliated with the Departments of Physics, Applied Math, and Ecology & Evolutionary Biology. In addition, she is an External Faculty member of the Santa Fe Institute. She has also won numerous distinguished awards for her research and teaching. Learn more about Dr. Peleg here.

Learn About Colorado's Littlest Wildlife

Each month we share a a new insect portrait and profile, but for Colorado Pollinator Month we couldn't pick just one!

In 2022, PPAN championed CO Senate Bill 22-199 at the legislature, in which the CO Department of Natural Resources commissioned a study on our state's native pollinating insects. Since then, we've been helping to build community knowledge and excitement about our local native insects, and pushing new state legislation based on the Study recommendations.

You can read about many of these pro-pollinator wins on our website.
